Cacaw – Get a Brain 12”

Although I never really listened to Chicago’s Coughs that much I was still intrigued to learn that a couple of former members of the band had found themselves in a new outfit named Cacaw. My interest was even further peaked when I began reading about how it was reminiscent to stuff found on AmRep, etc. After listening to their first release, a 12 inch EP through Chicago’s Permanent Records titled Get a Brain, they definitely speak the truth. This is some fierce bass heavy noise-rock that features some equally fierce and at times terrifying female vocals from both Anya and Carrie formerly of the Coughs.
I would have probably sat on this a bit longer in hopes to listen to it some more, however I realize this EP is pretty limited (300 or so copies I think?) and I wanted to get it out there before it completely disappears. Along with the great music featured on the EP, the back side of the record happens to feature a very cool design screen printed by the members themselves. This is very much worth picking up for fans of noise-rock and who may also dig some unique packaging.

For anyone interested in picking this up, definitely head on over to Permanent Records and do so before they are no longer available. It’s comes strongly recommended. Enjoy!
