The Mercury Players – Hollywood or Bust 7” (1992, Bovine)
Before Todd Rittman became a fixture within the lineup of avant-garde rockers U.S. Maple he played in this short lived project with fellow future U.S. Maple member Pat Samson. Rittman also played in another short lived project called Double Boar around the same time which also featured members of Blatant Dissent and Festering Rinyanyons, however that’s for a later date possibly. Aside from this 7-inch on Bovine in 1992 they released a split 7-inch with Festering Rinyanyons and made a couple compilation appearances before disbanding in 1994. The rest is history pretty much, as Todd Rittman can now be found in Singer and Pat Samson is currently playing in Miracle Condition with former Shorty/U.S. Maple guitarist Mark Shippy. So with that said, here are the two songs featured on the Hollywood or Bust 7-inch. This is pretty good stuff that unsurprisingly carries a very large Chicago 90’s indie-rock sound. Enjoy.
