The Forms - The Forms

I honestly feel like The Forms are a band specifically for me. At least that’s how I feel when I listen to their music. And because of that they’ve managed to do something that over the past couple years has been unbelievably difficult to do and that is to make indie-rock seem interesting to me again. With so many bands that receive a ton of hype and press, there is a band like The Forms that is trying their absolute hardest to make something that is at the same time challenging but yet is so easy listening and strangely relaxing. While the band did receive a nice amount of praise for their last album Icarus they are still flying under the radar as they approach the release of their latest album, The Forms, both of which were recorded by Steve Albini. Their upcoming album will be out October 23rd through their own label Threespheres.

I definitely didn’t have The Forms pegged to release the album that is probably my favorite album of this year so far leading into October. I mean, Icarus was good. In fact it was real good; however their newest effort has completely blown away that album. Aside from maybe one or two other albums, I don’t think there is an album that I have liked as instantly as this one. The album just contains so much that seems to be catered to my tastes. But regardless of that, I think many will find that the sounds contained within the bands second album will still sit well with their ears too. That is something I am definitely not worried or concerned about and I believe many more out there are craving for something like this anyway.

Although being based out of New York, the band has sort of a Midwestern rock sound in being able to craft melodies that are sweepingly large in size and at the same time infectiously catchy. That may or may not explain my fascination with the bands music. Influences and all of that stuff aside though; the real reason why this succeeds on so many levels is that it’s just some incredibly well written music that to this point no one has matched. Not this year, or really for at least a couple years when it comes down to straight up indie-rock. This is as close to flawless as it gets for me.

Obviously if the tunes above spark some interest, then go out and by the bands self-titled album when it comes out on the 23rd. The band self-releases their own music on their label Threespheres, so I can’t urge all of those out there enough pick this up when it comes out. In the meantime keep checking in over at the bands MySpace.
