As for The Fleeting Joys, I actually bought their album during the first pressing of it, which was in 06. So I lumped it in with last years group of releases. That’s why it didn’t make any sort of appearance this year. It’s a fantastic album however, and I am looking really forward to the new one…that’s for sure.

I guess you being a shoegze fan just missed Fleeting Joys wonderful album though Rumskib are very beautiful Then they went around the web but you were the first to show me this bend as well. I keep trying to get into the Forms, but their songs seem to last far longer than the actual track lengths because of the lyrical/vocal repetition.

Given your fondness for Midwest/DC rock, I’d check out Mt. St. Helens’ Of Others. It’s so much better than their past efforts (if you’d heard those).

Thanks! It seems like numbers 16 through 13 are almost interchangeable though. Those were all tough calls.

The Heaviness record is really good, but I think I counted it for an '06 release. I could be wrong though.

I am all over that Radio Flier LP, I've never heard it. Thanks for the tip on that.

i love yr blog, jonathan. only from you would i accept the seemingly outrageous assertion that there are 14 records better than the bottomless pit full-length.

also i'm surprised that heaviness record didn't make your list.

most importantly, did you see that the hardcorefornerds guy is doing a hoover genealogy project? i just heard the entire radio flier lp, and shucks, it sounds like the missing link btw crownhateruin and abilene. definitely get that first abilene record, by the way.

Thanks for introducing me to a lot of great bands this year. I’ll try to return the favor if I ever start that music blog I’ve been planning for months.

A handful of your favorites would probably make my list as well…with the addition of stuff by Black Lips, Future of the Left, Akimbo, Prong and one of the two Robert Pollard records.
