Gnu - Album Epochal
Gnu is a four piece noise-rock outfit from The Czech Republic. The band has been making music in some form or another since the mid nineties. They returned this year with their latest album Album Epochal on Silver Rocket, which also happens to be their first in five years, their last being the excellent Milimetry Ticha. For those not familiar with Gnu, they come at you with a two bass, guitar, and drum attack that while at times reaches a cacophonous state of noise making, it also results in a variety of interesting bass work from the band.

As to be expected after being together and making music for around sixteen years now, the band isn’t quite as noisy as they were in their beginnings. However, they’ve grown into a much more complex and overall interesting band, due to the interplay between the two bassists. However, these songs are far from adult contemporary. Album Epochal still shows Gnu belting out tunes with a visceral sting and that sound rooted in the heyday of AmRep.
