Pupille - La Música de Moda

Four albums in 10 years, the Tarragona based Pupille have consistently been putting out melodically twisting and precise instrumental rock during that time. The band is back this year with their fifth album titled La Música de Moda, which as been put out by Bcore Disc out of Barcelona, Spain.

Being a five piece can sometimes be misleading, Pupille aren’t a band that produce a large wall of noise or use that number to power the listener into submission. Instead, and one of the things that makes Pupille so impressive and a pleasure to listen to, is that each one of the members can be picked out of the melding and winding sound. Thanks to the extremely talented work of each member, it makes La Música de Moda a fantastic treat to listen to on a larger home stereo. Getting a chance to hear the three featured guitarists float in and out from one channel to the other just never gets old throughout the seven songs that make up the album. Bouncing off one another effortlessly and complete with smooth transitions that lead to the next guitarist’s arrangement, there is plenty contained within the album that make repeated listens a definite must. And that is not taking into the account the wonderful music that all of this ends up creating.

Pupille – La Comedia Hungara [MP3]

For those interested in picking up La Música de Moda then head on over to Bcore Disc to pick it up. Fans of finely executed instrumental rock shouldn’t pass this one up, a fine piece of work.

Jonathan;

Loving Pupille, and it's funny that I just placed an order from Bcore Disc last week (Shanty Rd., Qualude, Lavodrama & Madee). Any other labelmates that you can recommend while I pick up "La Música de Moda"?

I check your site every weekday and have been turned onto over a dozen bands that I never would have come across if not for BOAWS. Keep up the fantastic work and thank you so much for caring enough to share and work as hard as you do doing it.

Peace--

Pat

Pat,

My Bcore Disc recommendation says you should pick up some Aina. I recommend self-titled and Bipartite, if they are available still. I'm sure Jonathan would agree.

Wakmastera;

Discovered Aina sometime in '02 back when I was jonesing for new Jawbox but none to be had (although Burning Airlines was great, it didn't quite scratch the same itch as Jawbox). This brings up an Aina question: is this band the same one (by the same name)that put out a "metal opera" on a different label (my guess is no)?

But, yes, Aina is/was quite a band. Any suggestions as to where I might look for the long out-of-print "Uptight"?

Hey Pat,

Excellent call on picking up some Lavodrama as well. Did you get their album from last year or did you pick up the new EP? I need to get the EP myself actually.

Speaking of Aina, I think Nueva Vulcano is ex-Aina. If you haven't checked them out, their worth doing so. Also that new Margarita disc isn't bad as well.

i found out about Aina the same way. someone had tagged the zip file for s/t on eMule as Aina - Aina (Jawbox, Dischord, BCore) or something. so i gave it whirl.

i wasn't sure if you'd known about aina or not so i threw them up there anyhow.
