Red Bliss...
Red Bliss was a noise-rock trio that was part of the Boston music scene in the early 90’s; more specifically the trio of Brian McGillivray, Mike Rulli, and Mike Carreiro. While going pretty much unnoticed these days, the band put out two records, 1990’s Fishkill and 1991’s Gateway to Joy, both of which were released on Axis Records. Sadly I don’t have a working scanner anymore for the Gateway to Joy cover art, but thankfully the Fishkill cover art was findable online. Anyway, their sound was kind of in the area of Drunks with Guns and/or Flipper, alternating between a lumbering noisy thud and more punk inspired tunes. Either way, fans of those bands should probably check out a Red Bliss record. The band, which may or may not be all hearsay, developed a sort of reputation for being a wild live act that resulted in them getting banned in numerous clubs during their time together. It definitely wouldn’t surprise me after listening to a record like Gateway to Joy, but you never know. Don’t know what happened to these guys after their second album. I know they also released a split with Brickbat in ’91 through Axis, but that’s about as much as I can tell you. But yeah, definitely check out some tunes below for a good noise-rock fix.Fishkill:
Red Bliss – Brigade [MP3]
Red Bliss – Crank [MP3]
Gateway to Joy:
Red Bliss – Slute [MP3]
Red Bliss – Intersect [MP3]
For those looking to pick up records by Red Bliss both Fishkill and Gateway to Joy are still available through Amazon used for pretty cheap. Definitely recommend picking up one or both even. Everyone have a great weekend!
