When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth - Not Noiice
With the growing trend of bass and drum or guitar and drum duos these days, you almost have to crack a smile when you see a band like When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth aiming for “the more the merrier” angle. The band happens to contain two singers (both of which sing in a manner that can hardly be deciphered), two guitarists, two drummers, and a bassist. And what place could spawn such a noisy and crowded mess such as this one you ask? Well only Austin, TX of course which has always seemingly gone above in beyond in developing the best in scuzzy alcohol fueled rock and apparently that value continues to live on in bands like When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth. Not Noiice is the bands second album I believe, released through the Chalk Circle label earlier this year. The albums eleven tracks range from slow lumbering numbers to spazzy freakouts and often characteristics can both be found in the same song. While the jumps from one noisy extreme to the other may not be for everyone, it really doesn’t interfere with the bands main focus of laying waste to your eardrums and completely rocking. In fact, for people that have been listening to this type of thing for years, how could this be a deterrent? This is the type of noisy mayhem that you want to take part in. Also, the band seems to have a bit of a sense of humor as evidenced by the video they shot for their song “It’s Not the Heat, It’s the Humidity”, which has been embedded below.
