COA…
Here is an interesting record that may be of the lesser known variety. COA were a drum and bass duo from Japan that played very loud and raw noise-rock similar to that of godheadSilo, Unsane, etc. In fact, one of the particular tunes I am posting from their album Smell Me, Smell My Grandfather happens to be an Unsane cover so that should tell you something. However, one of the cool and most interesting things about COA was that both members were females. Now you may be saying, “so what, they are girls?”, however take a
listen to the music and pay special attention to the vocals and you’ll understand why I took the time to mention that little tidbit. It’s kind of scary to think that a woman is making all those terrifying growls beneath all that rumbling distortion. It’s very cool stuff though and within thirty minutes Smell Me, Smell My Grandfather barrels through eleven tracks of rumbling noise that will be of top interest for noise-rock fans that have not had the pleasure of hearing this fine duo before.
Smell Me, Smell My Grandfather:
COA – Black Bone [MP3]
COA – My Right (Unsane cover) [MP3]
I am not completely positive on the amount of items in the COA discrography, however I know they had a couple albums that followed Smell Me, Smell My Grandfather called Your Chill Lobe to My Sound Sleep in 1998 and Sea Urchin Character in 2002. There are also a couple singles floating around out there too. For those interested in picking up items from COA check in with Aquarius or the Japan Overseas label. Enjoy!
