Knot Feeder – Light Flares
I would venture to guess that a fair amount of fans of math-rock are aware of the relatively new band Knot Feeder that contains former Don Caballero member Mike Banfield along with former Tabula Rasa members Andrew Grossmann, Rob Spagiare, and former Southpaw member Andy Curl. It’s quite a lineup and one that absolutely had me excited for future recordings. After roughly a couple years of writing and shows the time has finally arrived where the band is set to release their full-length debut titled Light Flares. While there isn’t any sort of wide release for the album quite yet, the band has graciously set up ordering for the album on their website and judging by how quickly mine arrived, they’ll have it to you quickly. For anyone that would rather go the digital route, the album will be available by that method through File-13 Records on March 10th.
The album itself is what you would expect from this grouping of musicians, and by that I mean some fan-fucking-tastic largely instrumental math-rock. It’s pretty hard hitting at times thanks in part to a nice mixture of twisting guitar work along with some driving riffage that gives Knot Feeder a noisier edge that some might have not expected to hear. Trust me though, it’s great. Light Flares out does and blows away much of the bits and pieces that appeared on the bands MySpace leading up to the album and it should surely land on some best of lists when it’s all said and done. Buy this record folks, you won’t be disappointed.

For those interested in picking up Light Flares, then just check out the bands website. They also have t-shirts up for sale on there too. Anyway, this record rocks so pick it up if you enjoy what you hear.
