Police Teeth – Real Size Monster Series
Having never heard the Seattle based post-punk outfit Police Teeth previously I was kind of overwhelmed at first to find that my first exposure to the band would be and exploration through their first two albums, which was unexpected but in the end greatly worth it. I’ll admit the bands first album Jazz Records for Sale didn’t go in the direction of the full on rocking that some of the tracks showed the potential of heading, however Police Teeth know their way around a good melody and from there round them out with a large amount of fuzz that works in the same indie/pop territory that occasionally reminds me of much more amped up version of Archers of Loaf or something in that area of indie rockdom. Whatever it is though, it’s some seriously solid material that only gets better on the bands second and just recently released album Real Size Monster Series.
In between albums the band apparently added a second guitarist to the mix, which absolutely shows on the Real Size Monster Series as the guitars are much more layered giving what was already a fairly powerful core an incredibly potent buzz of guitars. The album also has the band going for a no holds barred style of straight up post-punk that they flashed hints of on the previous record but have implemented fully here, much to my delight. Not to say I am an impatient man, but Real Size Monster Series gets straight to the point and proceeds to drive it into your skull for a good and highly satisfying forty minutes.

Give this a go folks if you enjoy what you hear, well worth it. If you’re looking to pick up the bands material it can be had from the band directly via their MySpace page or Sonic Boom Records. Enjoy!
