Double Dagger – More
Double Dagger is no stranger to this blog, as they have most definitely been mentioned amongst these pages in the past. Why? Well, because they are very good and I like very good noisy rock. To recap, the band is a three piece based out of Baltimore that features nothing more than a bassist, drummer, and a vocalist. That’s more than enough though to stir up considerably delicious racket and Double Dagger are almost ready to unleash yet another helping of it here in the next couple weeks through their new label Thrill Jockey.
The album More will be their third if I am not mistaken and it is to be released on May 5th. It’s kind of scary to think that the album was recorded in a condemned building as I don’t think I would want to do so much as to disturb what little support the structure has. Double Dagger certainly play at a level that in some sort of fictitious world where the power of rock could actually bring down a building, it would definitely happen. That said, I doubt wherever they were recording was in THAT bad of condition, however it’s much cooler to think that the band is playing among some dilapidated looking structure or some rubble, as it seemingly fits the style of music that they play. It’s dirty, yet despite all the darker imagery and political affair found within their music it somehow remains often upbeat which I assume is where the press release gets that odd “pop” tag from. It still doesn’t quite register as that way with me, but whatever it may be Double Dagger make it interesting here on More and it’s plenty loud so that’s more than enough to win me over. Kidding, the songs are fucking great too, so check the album out.

Keep an eye on the Thrill Jockey site for the disc at the beginning of May. Anyone that plans on getting this on vinyl, there is a pre-order available right now on Insound. So hit that up now for those interested. In the meantime, enjoy!
