Luca Brasi – Creeper 7” (1995, Reproductive)
Not long after I wrote a bit about Red Bliss on the blog awhile back, member Brian McGillivray contacted me and was kind enough to fill in the blanks on everything post-Red Bliss. At the time it was unknown to me that he went on to co-found Luca Brasi who, like Red Bliss, played a very rough around the edges sort of noise-rock…maybe a bit more sludgy and straightforward however. Anyway, not too long ago while browsing through some 45’s at a local record store I stumbled across this single that apparently had been rescued from a college radio station sell off. I mention this because some sticker with their call letters and logo obstructs the cover art and scribbled right in the middle of it is this short little note that someone at the station must have wrote after hearing this. It reads “lame music barely makes it past the production quality”.
I thought that was sort of funny. I by no means think it’s lame, either that I wouldn’t be posting it. Well, ok…the version of “Creeper” that appears here isn’t the hottest thing, but I definitely dig the b-side and the early version of “Gout”. Both tracks later appeared re-recorded on the bands full-length To the Tooth that was also released on Reproductive Records. The track “Gout” as it appears here is significantly shorter and the vocals are completely whacked out and way more unhinged than the album version. Fun stuff. Listen to the single below.
