Kong – Snake Magnet
For some reason with two members from melodic rockers Oceansize in the band I didn’t really think that Kong would be just as abrasive and generally weird as they are. I don’t know why, I just figured that the apple can’t fall too far from the tree. However, no…this is a side project in every sense of the word. So if you’re reading this and expecting to hear something even remotely similar, then just forget that now.
I would say Snake Magnet comes as a bit of a surprise, as I didn’t even know of Kong’s existence until this album was sent my way. However, it’s even more so since I am thoroughly enjoying it. I honestly don’t know what the deal behind the band is, but they are apparently working some sort of “mysterious” angle. I don’t really know why, the music did just fine for me without having to see the band sporting masks or being intentionally elusive information wise. All that aside though, Kong present and interesting mixture of noise here that comes off as sort of a Fugazi on a caffeine high clashing with a plethora of Touch & Go artists along with a bunch of oddball electronic flourishes spread throughout. I’ll gladly take that.
Kong – Leather Penny [MP3]
For anyone interested in picking up Snake Magnet, the album is available currently through Brew Records. Definitely give it a go if you’re enjoying the posted tune above!

Kong is also the name of a great dutch instrumental band who uses to play live in quadrophony (each member in a corner of the room!!).
They've just released their seventh (or eighth?) album now.
