Built on a Weak Spot

Not too long ago a commenter reminded me about the arty noise-rock unit Bakamono that released a couple records during the 90’s along with a handful of 7-inches. The comment directed to me One Sided War, which had a download for the split they did with Oiler in 1993, which I didn’t have a copy of. That in turn forced me to revisit the bands catalog a bit, which still holds up well I’d say thanks in part to their more experimental nature and the tendency for a lot of the songs to basically end up as sort of mathy noise collages. They were interesting at the very least. I won’t get into great detail about their history because there is a lengthy and wonderfully detailed piece about the band leading up to their second record Long Time Cain on their MySpace page. The page also makes mention of a 3rd record, which I’ve never heard and would definitely like to. Anyway, all of this is basically a reason to post this fine little single the band put out in between albums on Big Jesus Enterprises in 1995, which features an early version of “Ms. Pac Man” that would later appear on Long Time Cain. The track “Gyspy” is exclusive to this release as far as I know.

Both albums from Bakamono are still available used for fairly cheap on Amazon for anyone thinking about further listening. I recommend it.
