Monthly Mix: August 2010

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

I’m getting a jump on putting the mix up for this month, by a whopping five days. I figured it was ready to go so why not do something on time for once. Thanks to an overwhelming helping of awesome new tunes to come my way this past month, this one came together quite quickly. There are some excellent new tracks from The Bitters, White Boss, Broken Water, and more. As is always the case with the mixes, this one will stay up until the next one is posted. Also, all of the artist/band names have been linked to a place of purchase where applicable. If you’re enjoying anything you hear on the mixes then definitely pick up the real deal. With that, download and enjoy!

01 – Flight – Molly, Don’t Fade
02 – White Boss – Darkness/Lightness
03 – Automaton Adventure Series – Intermission
04 – G.I. Joe – Negro
05 – Flower – Spiral
06 – The Bitters – By Her Own Hand
07 – USSSY – Ocean Investigation
08 – Broken Water – Normal Never Happened

On the move…

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Not the blog, but I am however making a move. Updates may be a bit scarce until I get fully settled in and of course get the Internet all setup. Thanks to everyone out there for coming back to the blog over the years. I do hope to be back in action rather soon. Hang in there!

Quickie…

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Just wanted to say congrats to Kevin Lavezzo as he is the lucky recipient of the PRF EP.

And on an equally important note, I wanted to say thanks to everyone that entered. The response was great and as a result I will try and continue to do this sort of thing every once and awhile. So yeah, thank you!

I Caught Something…

Monday, July 6th, 2009

No, not me personally…but my computer sure did and I am in the process of getting it back in shape after reformatting, etc. Anyway, this has ultimately put a delay on anything I wanted to get up on the site today and maybe a bit longer. Hopefully I’ll have it all sorted out by mid week.

In the meantime, check out this cool free live compilation of music from Kansas City based artists to coincide with the release of the film 72 Musicians by local film maker Bob Moczydlowsky. The film interviews various musicians/artists amongst the KC/Lawrence scene past and present of what it’s like to be involved in such a business. For more information on that and to download the companion live album, visit http://72musicians.com.

Minor Touching Up…

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

As you probably can tell, I made some slight changes to the appearance of BOAWS. I never really dug the bigger font and the spacing, etc. That and I couldn’t add as much linkage as I would have liked, however I think this works. Nothing major obviously, but I hope this seems a little bit less “big”. Just trying to keep things simple really. Anyway, back Monday as previously mentioned…

Quick Note…

Monday, March 16th, 2009

I finally caved on this whole Twitter thing. Maybe I can find some use for it, I don’t know if I quite understand it. Either way, follow BOAWS if you wish. http://twitter.com/BOAWS

I’ll add a side link thingy sometime soon.

Computer Woes…

Monday, December 1st, 2008

So I was in the middle of getting the latest monthly mix up yesterday evening and was suddenly hit with a bout of computer trouble. I shut down the computer momentarily and now it won’t power back on at all and is giving me the dreaded Dell flashing orange light. So until I get it going again there will unfortunately be no updates to BOAWS for the time being. Apologies. I hope to be back soon, so hang tight.

Absence /// Boris, Torche, & Lair of the Minotaur @ The Granada (Lawrence, KS 07-23-08)

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Apologies for the lack of updates this week. I haven’t been around much due to work and last night on my night off I attended the Boris, Torche, and Lair of the Minotaur concert at The Granada in Lawrence, Kansas. The show was fantastic really, from start to finish. I felt absolutely exhausted by the time Boris ended their set at a little before two in the morning. My ears and my body felt completely beaten afterwards. I am actually surprised I feel as good as I do today. One of the highlights of the show had to be Torche closing their set with a deafening rendition of “Meanderthal”. Boris was absolutely fantastic and I can’t say enough good things about their live show. If any of you out there get a chance to see them, definitely do it. Sadly I wasn’t able to get many good photos of the show. I’ll post a few below just for shits and giggles I guess. Anyway, I’ll be back next week with regular updates and all that jazz. Everyone have a good rest of the week and weekend.

Stereo Question…

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

I generally don’t use the blog for things like this, but I figured this might be as good of place as any to try and get some feedback for my question. I currently have a mid-70’s era Marantz 2275 stereo receiver that needs some minor tuning up/work done to it. It’s basically gone without any maintenance during its lifespan and the 30+ years of wear and tear is starting to become noticeable. I am not exactly the best at doing these sorts of things on my own, so I was wondering if anyone out there knows of any place in or around the Kansas City area that does vintage stereo equipment repair and furthermore does good work, can be trusted, etc. If so, then feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an e-mail. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
